The Washington Post’s David Ignatius told Chris Matthews on Monday’s MSNBC “Hardball” broadcast that the “smartest thing Trump has done the first 100 days of foreign policy” is persuading China to work with the United States on pressuring North Korea, and finding a solution without going to war.
“Trump is right to think that the time address the North Korean problem is now,” Ignatius said.
The analyst pointed out that if Trump waited any longer to bring pressure to bear on Kim Jong-un, the insane dictator would have more time to develop a delivery system for his nuclear weapons that could hit the United States mainland.
If that happened, he told Matthews, the confrontation would be very “different.”
The POTUS knew exactly when it was time to back off on his harsh rhetoric against China, Ignatius marveled.
“China is now, to a surprising extent, working in tandem with the United States to deal with North Korea.”
