Millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars have been foolishly wasted paying for the salaries of non-existent “ghost” soldiers in Afghanistan under the Obama administration, according to sources quoted in Full Measure today.
The budgetary abuse began under Obama and continued throughout the length of his terms.
John Sopko, special inspector general in Afghanistan, says the ongoing problem may be worse than anyone realized, but is now being addressed by President Donald Trump‘s Pentagon.
“We’ve been raising this concern about ghosts going back a number of years,” Sopko was quoted.
According to the inspector, even the Afghani government knew that the problem was rampant and tried to warn Obama about the wasted funds.
Under Trump, the Department of Defense has pledged to monitor Afghan active-duty forces so that U.S. taxpayer money is no longer spent on soldiers and cops who don’t exist.
