Monday afternoon, a 19-year-old Oklahoma man had a verbal exchange with three burglars who broke into his family’s home. Then, he proceeded to gun them all down during the home invasion.
Police say three suspected robbers broke into an Oklahoma home. The young man and his father were both home. After waking up to “loud bangs” coming from downstairs, he jumped out of bed.
The teen grabbed his gun, an AR-15, for protection. Deputy Nick Mahoney says the man stumbled upon three suspects, wearing all black. They’d broken in through a glass door in the back of the house.
After he got downstairs, he exchanged some harsh words with the burglars. Then, he shot all three of them down. Two of the home invaders died in the kitchen. The third tried to crawl away, but ended up dying in the driveway.
New York Post reports that neither of the two residents were hurt. When Wagoner County sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found one person dead in the driveway. Upon entering the home, two more were dead in the homeowner’s kitchen.
“The shots were so loud — loud enough that I ran to the window to see what had happened,” said the neighbor, who lives two doors away from the house. “Something in me knew it was gunshots, but I didn’t know what had happened until I went to leave my house and saw all the police officers.”
Police said they found a knife on a body of one of the robbers and brass knuckles on another one.
The homeowner and his son gave formal statements to the police. Mahoney said the shooting seems to be in self-defense. Police will investigate the case to be certain, Mahoney added.
Elizabeth Marie Rodriguez confessed to police that she was the getaway driver for the potential crime later that afternoon. Rodriguez allegedly admitted that she dropped off the group and planned to return to pick them up.
Police arrested her and charged her with three complaints of first-degree murder and three complaints of first-degree burglary.
