When MSNBC host Rachel Maddow gave her liberal viewers the disappointment of the year last night by “exposing” President Trump‘s innocuous tax return from 2005, comparisons were immediately drawn to Geraldo Rivera’s infamous live television reveal of Al Capone’s vault.
Geraldo famously got the green light to bulldoze open the infamous Chicago gangster’s concrete vault in 1986, and the live broadcast on ABC turned out to be a dud as only a few broken liquor bottles were discovered.
But in a Fox News interview earlier today, Rivera said Maddow has now taken the mantle of televised embarrassment with last night’s epic fail.
Watch the clip below.
“President Trump should get a new tax attorney because he’s paying twice the amount that Mitt Romney paid,” Rivera joked during the interview by Fox’s Melissa Francis. “It was so favorable to the president that I thought for a second that he planted it. I would love to be in the situation where I paid 38 million in taxes.”
