A Georgia University is providing full scholarships and assistance to illegal migrants to help them get into top colleges around the country, but apparently not for legal migrants from disadvantaged backgrounds. Already there are calls to see if this “University” is receiving Federal money, and if so, why are they actively working against ICE?
Education is one of the prime movers in social mobility, and many are wondering why such generosity should be extended to those that do not have the good race to actually go through the system and become citizens. It is in fact a program that encourages people to not try and become legal as they would then not be eligible for the scholarships.
This is making a mockery of every poor student from all races and backgrounds who are not receiving help to give them a foot on the ladder. Since when are American Universities responsible for educating at taxpayer expense people who are not citizens of the US?
As reported in the Daily Caller:
Freedom University in Athens, Georgia, an unaccredited school founded in 2011 by illegal immigrant students, activists, and four University of Georgia professors, provides these services and others specifically to illegal immigrant students with the goal of helping them enroll in accredited colleges.
The school lists its mission as “to empower undocumented youth and fulfill their human right to education.” Billing itself as a “freedom school,” Freedom University claims to have assumed a “leadership role in the national sanctuary campus movement.”
Freedom University has also facilitated the development of Mass Emergency Lookout Text for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (MELT ICE), a program which notifies illegal immigrant students when ICE agents are in the vicinity, according to Campus Reform.
