Lee Howard Koenig, 45, was arrested yesterday for impersonating Nickelback drummer to buy $25,000 in music related equipment. He supposedly contacted an Austrian music equipment company through email telling them that he was Nickleback and attempted to order microphones and drum parts.
Upon contacting the real Daniel Adair to verify his order, the Austrian company got an astonishing discovery. Adair did a little online research and found the perpetrator’s Facebook page. He took the information to the police and an arrest was made. Howard Koenig is now facing two counts of impersonation charges, but seeks to send Adair an apology
In 2009, Koenig was sentenced to spend three years in prison and refund $78, 000 he had fraudulently collected in 2007. In a similar case, he had pretended to act in place of the Indian Riverkeeper advocacy group, and sold advertisement spaces in concert programs but never did the work.
He was released from jail on Tuesday on $18,750 cash bail
