According to the Chicago Tribune’s crime counter, homicides in Chicago officially surpassed 100 victims this year, as more news pours in of violent shootings, child deaths, and even a pregnant woman shot dead on the sidewalk.
Just last night, detectives are left investigating a case where 5 people were shot in one hour, in different parts of the city. Despite several people being shot, police claim there are no witnesses, and attempts to set up and investigation and block off roads has so far turned up no suspects.
Just a few days ago, President Trump again turned the nation’s eyes towards Chicago, tweeting, “Seven people shot and killed yesterday in Chicago. What is going on there – totally out of control. Chicago needs help!”
The Chicago Tribune has more:
Detectives are investigating an early morning South Shore shooting that left three people wounded.
About 8 a.m. Saturday, police got multiple calls about a shooting in the area of East 74th Street and South Baldwin Avenue. Emergency responders arrived and immediately took two people to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to fire officials. The two were rushed off in serious to critical condition, they said.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether the third person who was shot had to be taken to a hospital for treatment.
Soon after, police squeezed their vehicles into the 7400 block of Baldwin, in an alley lined with garages and garbage bins. They taped off the area around a minivan, which sat near 75th Street, its back window shattered and hollowed out. Snowflakes drifted to the ground as police investigated the scene.
“There are two or three guns down there,” an officer said, pointing to the area near the minivan. “And one down here.” He pointed toward the property of a home near 74th, about four houses down from the minivan.
A cat prowled along the taped-off area as police knocked on neighbors’ doors. No witnesses appeared to be at the scene.
About 40 minutes earlier, two people walked into Community First Medical Center with gunshot wounds. According to fire officials, the people who were shot said the shooting happened in the area of West Belmont and North Central avenues on the Northwest Side.
A 40-year-old man was shot in the right knee, and a 38-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the left knee. They remained at the hospital, where their conditions were stabilized, police said.
No one had been arrested in connection with the shooting, officials said.
