In a hearing this week, FBI Director James Comey said that Hillary Clinton’s chief of staff, Huma Abedin sent her husband classified emails when Clinton was Secretary of State.
Members of the committee expressed surprise that no charges had been filed against Weiner and Abedin.
Comey said that he didn’t think that Weiner didn’t read the emails which were discovered on his laptop during an FBI investigation in Weiner sexting underage girls.
Zerohedge reported that Comey explained the unusual situation:
Somehow, her emails were being forwarded to Anthony Weiner, including classified information. His then-spouse Huma Abedin appears to have had a regular practice of forwarding emails to him for him to print out for her so she could deliver them to the secretary of state.
Sen. John Kennedy asked the FBI Director if sending classified documents to someone without a security clearance was a crime. Comey said that it was illegal only if the parties knew the emails were classified.
To some observers, this was another confirmation that the FBI operated on a different standard when dealing with Clinton.
