A father in Georgia is accused of shooting and killing his daughter’s abusive boyfriend, after the boyfriend had shot the daughter in the back once.
Floyd Rusk, 57, came to his daughter’s defense after the boyfriend, 25-year-old Thomas ‘TJ’ McNulty, shot 22-year-old Jessica Rusk in the back after a family dispute that erupted around 4am in their house.
The young couple does have a son together. Reportedly, McNulty shot Rusk while the child was home.
The couple lived in the parents home. It is believed that the mother was the one who heard the shot fired and called for help. Before officers could arrive at the scene. Rusk grabbed his shotgun off the wall and shot the 25-year-old boyfriend twice.
The Daily Mail reports:
The young couple and their toddler son lived in the basement of Floyd and Martha Rusk’s home, and it was Jessica’s mother who called 911 for help after the shooting, reported 11Alive.
While deputies were on their way to the scene, Mr Rusk reportedly grabbed a gun and shot McNulty, killing him. The 25-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jessica Rusk was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in stable condition and she is expected to make a full recovery.
So far, no charges have been filed against Floyd Rusk in connection to the deadly shooting, but it will by up to the district attorney to make the final determination following a review of the case.
According to her social media posts, Jessica and TJ had been in a relationship since at least 2014 and welcomed their son in November 2015.
Investigators say the couple’s child was home at the time of the shooting but was unharmed.
The station WSB-TV revealed on Monday that McNulty was fired from his Information technology job two weeks before the shooting for bringing a gun to work.
His former boss at Twisted Pair LLc, Scott Corathers, said McNulty had lasted only about a week at his firm and was let go for violating company policy.
Corathers said the 22-year-old claimed he forget the firearm in his back pocket.
