During Trump’s election campaign, he promised to get a better deal for America by either renegotiating or pulling out of NAFTA. Since joining NAFTA, the US trade surplus with Mexico has completely dissapeared and hundreds of thousand of American jobs have been shipped overseas. It has been great for every country except the US. And now Trump has been given the backing of some of the most powerful Labor Unions in the country.
The United Auto Workers are fully behind President Trump in changing the terms of our attachment to NAFTA in the hope that he will be able to get some balance back to the deal to enable ALL countries to benefit from it.
Is there any sensible person left who feels that NAFTA has been a benefit to the US? Putting out an “Americ First” policy in terms of trade arrangements was one of The Donald’s biggest campaign pledges, and will be one of his greatest victories if he achieves it.
As reported in the Daily Caller:
Labor unions, including the United Auto Workers (UAW), have expressed support for President Donald Trump’s plan to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in a letter to the U.S. Trade Office.
The UAW was one of 557 groups or individuals who had filed public comments by close of business Monday, the deadline set by the U.S. Trade Office for public comment.
“Since NAFTA, our trade surplus with Mexico has vanished and hundreds of thousands of U.S. jobs have been lost. Most of these job losses have been in manufacturing,” UAW Legislative Director Josh Nassar said in a letter submitted to the trade representative June 6, according to the Detroit Free Press.
