Laura Passoni grew up in a Catholic family in Belgian. At age 16 Laura converted to Islam and married a Muslim man.
Her husband ended up leaving her and their young son and, according to Passoni she went into a “deep depression.”
NPR reported that Passoni then met an ISIS recruiter online and ended up traveling to Syria. While there she met dozens of Western woman who were with ISIS.
Some had come to try to help, some were there for love because they had followed a fighter. But there were plenty of women who were full of hatred. All they wanted to do was get a Kalashnikov and launch attacks.

Not long afterward, four Muslim women were arrested in connection with car bomb plot in Paris.
Passoni returned to Belgium and wrote a book about her experiences called In the Heart of ISIS With My Son.
