President Donald Trump made the surprising announcement this week that he would be willing to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un if such a meet would be productive.
Trump, who has shown a willingness to reach out to friends and foes alike made the statement during an interview with Bloomberg News on Monday.
The statement from the President comes as tensions continue to mount on the Korean peninsula as North Korea readies for another nuclear test.
If it would be appropriate for me to meet with him, I would absolutely, I would be honored to do it, Trump said Monday in an Oval Office interview with Bloomberg News. If it’s under the, again, under the right circumstances. But I would do that.
North Korea has become the number one foreign policy challenge for the young Trump administration as the rogue nation continues on a program that will end with the North Korea having missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons to the U.S. mainland.
Trump has shown in the past that he’s not afraid to sit down with people of differing opinions and a meeting between Trump and Kim Jong Un would be the ultimate in political theater.
