In 1991, Princess Diana was a very unhappy woman.
At the time, she decided to record her innermost thoughts for author Andrew Morton, but on the condition that Morton could not reveal that they were her words.
Now, 20 years after her death the book is being republished and this time includes the recordings that Diana made.
Diana recorded that she was so unhappy in her marriage that when she was four months pregnant with Prince William, she threw herself down the stairs hoping to gain attention from Prince Charles. She ended “bruised around the stomach,” but the baby was OK.
Diana said she found little sympathy from the Queen or her father in law, Prince Philip.
She talked about “running around with a lemon knife, one with the serrated edges. I was just so desperate.”
The Daily Mail is publishing extracts from the book to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Diana’s tragic death.
