Astronomers have discovered signals from deep space called fast radio bursts (FRB). According to a study, this could be evidence of advanced extra-terrestrial technology. Scientists believe that FRBs might be leaked signals from advanced alien transmitters.
As reported in the Daily Caller:
The study suspects these FRB might be leakage from extremely technologically advanced aliens using planet-sized transmitters to power interstellar probes in distant galaxies. The FRB’s level of power could plausibly be used to push payloads of a million tons of probes or spacecraft to extremely high speeds using interstellar light sails.
Such a transmitter would need to focus a beam on a sail continuously to power it, meaning observers on Earth would only see a brief flash because the sail and its host planet are moving relative to us. A repeated appearance of such a beam could be a sign of its artificial origin.
Dr. Avi Loeb, a theorist at the Harvard University-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, said “Fast radio bursts are exceedingly bright given their short duration and origin at great distances, and we haven’t identified a possible natural source with any confidence…An artificial origin is worth contemplating and checking.”
FRBs were detected in multiple locations in space, with a few milliseconds duration for each burst. One particular signal repeated several times, which could be a sign of intelligent purpose.
While radio astronomers are excited at the possibilities these signal present, there is the possibility that this is just an unidentified natural phenomena.
