Protestors for the #DayWithoutImmigrants were in for a surprise when they tried to return to their jobs after taking to the streets. According to the Daily Caller quoting NBC News:
More than 100 protesters across the country were fired from their jobs after skipping work to take part in last week’s “Day Without Immigrants” demonstration…
In Nolensville, Tennessee, nearly 20 employees at Bradley Coatings, Incorporated — a commercial painting company — were laid off…
At Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers in Long Island, New York, 25 workers were fired Friday when they returned to work… Police escorted the workers from the restaurant — most of whom were undocumented and have worked there for years.
Workers who took the day off without permission were fired upon their return. Most of these workers were apparently illegal immigrants who have been working undocumented for some time.
If a country has laws, the laws should be followed. To work as an illegal migrant does nobody any good. In many cases the State doesn’t receive income tax (from the employee or the employer), and the worker has almost no recourse for protection under the law.
If they wanted to flaunt their illegal status in the face of those who believe in One Law for All, well, they did. And look where it got them. Protesting has a long and noble history in the U.S, as does the Rule of Law, respect both.
