A half-naked Ohio man crashed his car into a convenience store…. to get a beer. When police showed up, the man was so unapologetically drunk that they ended up having to taser and arrest him.
Robert Mason, 45, had been missing his pants and underwear when he decided to crash into his local store, driving at around 40 mph. The damage the crash caused had actually trapped the store clerk under a pile of debris.
Police say that Mason was upset that the store was closed. Once he got in there, he barricaded himself in the cooler to prevent police from getting to him.
The Daily Mail has more:
The clerk told police that he just closed for the night when the incident happened, and that Mason got out of the Challenger and said he needed a beer.
Police say the man barricaded himself in a beer cooler and told police to shoot him, but they subdued him with a stun device.
The chaotic moments right after the crash were captured on police body camera video and show the destroyed SDM Food Market as officers worked to free the store clerk.
Mason was taken to a hospital, as was the store employee, who suffered leg and chest injuries that weren’t considered critical.
Mason has been charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence alcohol or drugs. He was still hospitalized at Fairview Hospital as of Thursday morning.
Stillman said that Mason was suffering from issues related to his service in the military and as an officer with the Federal Protective Service.
The store clerk was fortunate that a deli counter was between him and the car, preventing more serious injuries.
‘Had the car been over a couple more feet, he was hurt, it could have been serious bodily injury, even possibly death,’ Stillman said.
‘I mean that’s a four, five thousand pound automobile coming at 30, 40 miles an hour. He was lucky, very lucky.’
