College basketball has seen a few racially-charged controversies in the past, but overall, student-athletics are an oasis of racial harmony and fairness. White and black players share lifelong friendships, and often participate in one another’s music and fashion tastes while serving as a unique and colorful contribution to the student body.
But not so according to Carmen Figueroa, a criminally-charged woman in Massachusetts.
Figueroa, a student at Hampshire College in Amherst, attacked and reportedly kicked and stepped on a white female basketball player from nearby Central Maine Community College.
The as-yet unidentified student-athlete was wearing braided hair, enraging the private-school student into a violent outburst. After also attacking the visiting player’s teammate, Figeuroa (in photo below) was accosted by police while shrieking about “cultural appropriation.”
Hampshire’s hair-raising hardliner has been charged with disorderly conduct, assault and battery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
