A group of people gathered Sunday for a memorial service for a man who killed in the Brighton Park neighborhood in Chicago turned deadly.
Friends and family were taking part in a memorial for Daniel Cardova, who had been killed earlier in the day at the same location from rifle shots.
The shootings came just five days after two police officers were shot in the same area of the city.
Friends and family of the victim of the earlier shooting were gathered in the neighborhood park to attend a memorial for Mr. Cardova. About 5.20 p.m. gunshots rang out, resulting in two people being killed, and an additional eight people wounded by gunshots.
According to the Chicago Tribune, one of the witnesses of the shooting has this to say about the violence that overwhelming Chicago:
The wake-up call has been here. It’s time to act. It’s time for each and every one of us to start looking at what’s going on on our block, identifying who is a gang member who’s selling drugs and who is supporting them in our communities.
