Charles Krauthammer praised Rex Tillerson’s “icy” diplomacy during a Wednesday appearance on Fox News, praising the Trump Administration’s hard line on Russian relations after what he called 8 years of “puppy” routines.
Krauthammer was thrilled with the demeanor of Trump’s Secretary of State when the diplomat met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The pundit said that Tillerson coldly laid out the facts about Russia’s malfeasance in Syria, something neither Hillary Clinton nor John Kerry did as SoS.
The praise from a conservative who has never supported Trump’s foreign policy until now is striking, especially since up to a week ago, Democrats and 90% of the news media shouted to everyone who would listen that President Trump was in cahoots with Putin and Russia, and was sure to be softer on them than Obama.
“John Kerry would go around like a puppy dog, pretending everything was OK and the Russians were listening,” continued Krauthammer in a spot-on rant, before calling Tillerson “stone-faced” in front of an adversary.
“The message is simple…the free lunch is over. Russia can no longer expect to walk over the West.”
