The Wall Street Journal is reporting that contrary to speculation, President Donald Trump has proposed securing funding for the Mexican border wall in September and has not given Democrats an ultimatum as of yet.
It was widely thought that Trump could threaten to hold up Obamacare funding if the Dems did not cave on border funding before this Friday’s do-or-die budget vote.
The move will likely prevent a temporary government shutdown.
Though this development may cause consternation among some of Trump’s hard-right supporters, the President is also acting in his usual pragmatic way – and may have the ultimate interests of conservatives in mind.
A government shutdown would spark a political firestorm and widespread public disapproval, crippling the administration’s plans to lower taxes, reform regulations and catch illegal aliens with violent criminal records.
