U.S. attorneys are typically put into place at the beginning of new administrations. 46 of the total 93 U.S. attorneys are still from the Obama Administration, according to the Department of Justice.
Attorney General Sessions has asked these 46 U.S. attorneys to resign so that he can have a uniform transition into the Trump Administration. Usually, these attorneys resign on their own once their administration is no longer in power.
This comes as a particular surprise to Preet Bharara, an attorney for the southern district of New York. He met with President Trump at the beginning of his term as well as AG Sessions, and was asked specifically to stay on in his position during this administration, but is now being asked to resign.
From Gateway Pundit:
This is a great move by Sessions. Obama’s shadow government is doing everything they can to undermine President Trump. The quicker Trump and his administration remove all people who are loyal to Obama, the quicker they drain the swamp.
