Jay Williams, an Atlanta-based music producer, was made famous on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) when he was granted an interview for fathering 37 children with 17 different women.
The interview made his story go viral, and he was given a reality show. The show would have followed Williams around as he attempted to bond with his children. The children are all aged between 3 and 27.
Well, now Williams, who once promised to step up and get to know all of his children, has gotten some bad news… all thanks to his own bad behavior.
OWN released a statement that announced their plans to cancel the series:
OWN has decided not to move forward with the Jay Williams docu-series. The series aimed to follow Jay as he worked to put his life and fractured relationships in order and to hold him accountable every step of the way. The intention was to help Jay work to establish new connections with his family, his children and the mothers of his children. Production has ended and the series will not air.
Williams was first introduced to the public eye when he appeared on an episode of OWN’s popular series “Iyanla: Fix My Life,” hosted by life coach Iyanla Vanzant.
“So let me ask you this question, Jay,” Vanzant said in the episode, according to the Daily Mail. “Thirty-four children. At any point, did it dawn on you this is too much?”
“No,” Williams replied, adding that he did use condoms while having intercourse with the women he impregnated.
“I probably would have had 200 kids if I didn’t use condoms.”
The host then asked Williams why he had “dropped” his children and failed to be a father-figure for them.
“I would like to confess that I absolutely did not love or care for myself at all,” he told four of his children present at the time of the interview.
“I have not honored your mothers as women the way that I should have. I would never say willingly, but I absolutely fell short on my responsibilities to you as a provider, at times.
“And the biggest thing that I would like to confess is that I absolutely did not live up to be the true man that I am and the father that you really have. I am responsible for the reason why each and every one of you absolutely don’t know me.”
His older children have reportedly told the media that they aren’t interested in their father’s tales. The series is being cancelled because he didn’t want to actually have family time, he was more interested in furthering his career as a producer.
“I just want you to know that I really don’t care anymore,” one of his daughters told him. “I’m just not buying it.”
