Shawn Michael Foltz, 31, a Minnesota man was arrested and charged after he was discovered having abused a 2-month-old baby by rubbing cayenne pepper in her eyes and burning her with hot water.
The two-month-old’s mother brought the baby to the hospital to be treated for injuries when doctors discovered the startling truth about what happened to the baby.
The mother told doctors that the baby and the couple’s other 3-year-old child were left in the care of their father that evening. When the mother returned, she found the baby’s eyes both had bruises over them, as well as red marks on the children.
The Daily Mail reports:
Shawn Michael Foltz, 31, was charged in Moorhead on Friday after the two-month-old’s mother took her to a hospital to be treated for her injuries.
He had also allegedly burned his daughter with hot water, snapped her in the face with a towel and rubbed cayenne pepper into her eyes.
The abuse is alleged to have occurred between April 10 until May 30, according to a criminal complaint obtained by Duluth News Tribune.
When the baby was taken to the emergency room on May 30, doctors found the girl with bruises over both eyes, red marks on her back and a bruise on her shoulder.
The mother told doctors the girl and her three-year-old brother had been left in their father’s care that evening.
Foltz had told the mother that the girl’s injuries were caused when her brother hit her with a toy gun.
The father admitted to police that he caused the injuries by snapping the girl in the face with a towel and used a wooden spoon and piece of vinyl flooring to hit her on her bottom, according to the criminal complaint.
He also allegedly said he was frustrated with the baby crying.
Foltz was charged with four felonies, including neglect of a child, malicious punishment of a child, and two counts of third-degree assault.
