Long one of America’s most successful and innovative companies Apple is showing signs of losing leadership in product innovation to Amazon and Google.
Apple announced this week a new HomePod product which aims to put Siri into homes, just as Amazon has done with Alexia in Amazon Echo.
However, Apple is two years behind Amazon in creating HomePod and plans to price it at more than twice the price that Amazon and Google charge for their similar products that are already on the market.
ClearPath Solutions, which reviews how IT companies are doing, is critical of Apple’s recent inability to find new product lines.
The IPhone, IPad, and IPod were products that changed how the world works. But those products were developed under the leadership of Steve Jobs, who died in 2011. Since then, Apple has focused or refining what works, not developing new products.
Apple continues to make huge amounts of money off their legacy products, but at some point in the future, that well is going to run dry.
