Former Representative Corrine Brown (D-Fla) was found guilty in a court of law on Thursday
Brown is guilty on 18 of 22 charges of tax evasion, in addition to wire and mail fraud, according to a report today in The Hill.
The former Congresswoman represented north and central Florida until leaving office in January. Prosecutors have proven beyond a reasonable doubt that she funneled almost a million dollars from a charity group, the One Door For Education Foundation, into her own bank account.
Out of more than $800,000 donated to the fund, only $1,200 went to charitable causes.
Brown pleaded “not guilty” and blamed her former chief of staff Elias “Ronnie” Simmons for the horrific and cold-hearted fraud.
A date for her sentencing has not been set.
