There are many things wrong with the American education system! But, banning certain American authors will not solve any of the issues.
Gene Ponder from Fort High School in Alabama recently released a summer reading list for the kids. The students only had to read one book from the recommended reading list to gain a bonus credit. The list featured a mix of conservative and liberal authors including Ronald Reagan and Mark Levin.
However, the list was heavily criticized by parents for a “perceived lack of diversity of ideas” and even questioned, “whether it met the reading levels required for a 12th grade AP class.”
The Baldwin County Board of Education canceled the assignment in favor of the parent’s views.
So much for a balanced list!
Superintendent Eddie Tyler said, “Mr. Ponder’s reading list that is going around on social media has not been endorsed by the school system. The list has been removed by the teacher. Baldwin County Public Schools has a process to vet and approve reading lists so that a variety of sources are used. I expect all employees to follow our processes, procedures and policies.”
If it was an all-liberal list, we bet there wouldn’t be any complaints at all!
Right Wing News reports:
The American education system has become infected with liberalism — of this, there is no doubt. But what is still shocking is what happens to conservative educators who dare to step outside the lines. One teacher found himself in hot water with his school, for no other reason than including conservative authors on his summer reading list.
