A high school student in Pennsylvania is suing his school district after having to change in front of a transgender boy. The lawsuit states that “Joel Doe” experienced confusion and humiliation when the transgender student changed clothes in the same room as the plaintiff.
“Joel Doe experienced immediate confusion, embarrassment, humiliation, and loss of dignity upon finding himself in this circumstance,” the lawsuit claims.
The Daily Caller recounts the incident:
Doe was in the middle of changing into his P.E. clothes when he spotted the transgender boy student in her bra and shorts. The student was still in the middle of transitioning from female to male, Kellie Fiedorek of the Alliance Defending Freedom, explained.
Doe tried to discuss the incident with school officials, but they brushed it aside and told him to “tolerate” the situation, the groups representing Doe said.
“Our laws and customs have long recognized that we shouldn’t have to undress in front of persons of the opposite sex. “But now some schools are bullying our children into giving up their rights even though, in this case, Pennsylvania law requires schools to have separate facilities on the basis of sex,” Fiedorek said.
Doe is being represented by The Alliance Defending Freedom and the Independence Law Center; he is suing for sexual harassment and violation of privacy.
