Just this past weekend, there have been 25 people brought to the hospital as wounded, while 4 others where fatally shot, all in one weekend in Chicago.
The crime rate for the week is actually right on par with last year, showing that the crime rate is not improving in the city. Between Monday February 13th and 19th, there were a counted 88 homicides – the same week last year was 90. This week Chicago counted 88 homicides and 468 shooting victims, according to the Chicago Tribune.
According to the Chicago Tribune’s Week in Review, three children were fatally shot this week, aged as young as 2, 11, and 12.

Late Sunday, a 69-year-old man was shot in the chin and grazed on his left hand during an attempted robbery in the South Chicago neighborhood, police said. The shooting happened about 10 p.m. in an alley in the 2200 block of East 84th Street. His condition was stabilized at South Shore Hospital.
Late Saturday, an off-duty Cook County sheriff’s officer was shot in the leg while he was standing in front of a house in the 7300 block of South Aberdeen Street in the Englewood neighborhood, police said. It was unclear if the off-duty officer was the intended target.
Early Saturday, two shootings in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side left two men dead and three others wounded. That included Willie Cook, 23, who had been at an after-hours gathering in the 5000 block of South Ashland Avenue when gunfire erupted, wounding him multiple times in the back.
