A 20-year-old girl was shot to death by a man who was stalking her, also in the same age range. Janeera Nickol Gonzalez was killed in a study area in North Lake College, as the stalker, Adrian Victor Torres first turned the gun on her, and then on himself, in this murder-suicide case.
21-year-old Torres stalked Gonzalez, according to her family. He was obsessed with her. However, her family says that since he never spoke to her or approached her in any way, she didn’t feel like she was in any immediate danger.
As soon as shots were fired, the school was placed on lock down. Her family actually arrived at the school before news of her death spread, hoping that she was okay.
The Daily Mail reports:
Before hearing the news about their daughter’s tragic death, the family rushed to the North Lake College campus to make sure that she had not been harmed.
Additionally, a family friend, Jenn Lauren tweeted: ‘My bf’s sister is at north lake and we can’t get a hold of her. Her name is Janeera Gonzalez if anyone knows if she’s ok please let me know.’
They finally received confirmation that she had been killed close to 5pm, more than four hours after the shooting.
Visibly shaken and speaking to WFAA, her mother, Lucia Gonzalez, said: ‘There is no justice for my daughter.’
‘We’re not gonna see her again, she was a harmless girl,’ said her father Juan Gonzalez.
Gonzalez was a Kinesiology student set to graduate in a few weeks, and said that she vaguely knew the gunman who, according to her mother, ‘had been stalking for for quite a while’.
Mrs Gonzalez said that the pair never dated and weren’t even friends, but that her daughter ‘didn’t make anything of it’.
Witnesses told the family that Torres approached their daughter in front of an art exhibit, yelling: ‘You know who I am and you know why I am here.’
‘She was very sweet. She was the best daughter a mother could have… the best girl… the best of everything,’ her parents told WFAA.
The victim’s brother Johnny Gonzalez, created a GoFundMe to help with his sister’s funeral expenses and within hours it had already surpassed the $10k goal.
