In a poll by CNN, 57% of American’s had a positive view of President Trump’s speech to congress last night. They polled again after the speech and approval ratings jumped to 69% in agreement that President Trump’s policies will move the country forward. White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer and counselor Kellyann Conway were so impressed with these polls that they shared them in tweets of their own. CNN, unhappy that the polly numbers were so high and that they were in favor of President Trump, then felt the need to downplay the results, saying that the positive reaction was not through all CNN views, but only for people who had tuned in to watch the speech.
“The survey, conducted among a group of Americans who said in interviews conducted before the speech that they planned to watch and agreed to be re-contacted, only reflects the views of those who watched the speech, not of all Americans.
People who choose to watch a political speech such as this one tend to be more supportive of the speaker. In this case, the pool of speech-watchers was about eight points more Republican than the population as a whole.”
