A one-year-old girl died after her mother left her in a hot car for six hours to go to the hair salon, WUSA reports.
Dijanelle Fowler is charged with second-degree murder and related charges in the death of her daughter Skylar.
Police found the girl dead in the back seat of Fowler’s car at the Emory Physicians parking lot.
According to the arrest warrant, Fowler left the girl in the car for six hours while she was at the salon.
Police said she left the car running but the car turned off at some point during the six hours.
When she exited the salon, she got help from another driver to jump start her car.
Police believe Skylar was already dead at this point.
Police also believe that Fowler may have put clothes over the child’s body to hide her from the man helping her.
She then drove around for nearly an hour with the girl’s body in the back seat.
More, via WUSA:
Between 4 p.m. and 4:54 p.m., police said she texted the child’s godfather and said she was going to urgent care for headaches. Police said she also searched Google about signs of seizures. At 4:54 p.m., Fowler arrived at Emory. She then called 911 and claimed to have a seizure.
When Emory police responded, they found Skylar dead in the back seat.
Fowler is charged with second-degree murder, second-degree cruelty to children, and concealing a death. She remained jailed without bond Tuesday night.
