A youth pastor in Alabama has shocked his community by admitting that he’s lost count of how many boys he molested. Jeffrey Dale Eddie has worked as the children’s pastor at Highland Park Baptist Church since 1998, but the Muscle Shoals resident finally had his pedophilia exposed last January. He pleaded guilty this week to 16 counts of sodomy, three counts of sexually abusing a child under 12 years old and one county of child pornography.
Eddie was caught molesting a young boy last January, but church officials shockingly covered up the abuse for four days before finally reporting it. Their actions are a clear violation of Alabama law, which has a mandatory reporting statute for child abuse or neglect for almost all professions. However, it’s unclear how the church will be directly charged or fined at this point.
The majority of Eddie’s instances of sexual abuse towards young boys involved him performing oral sex on them. Court documents obtained by local reporters also indicate that Eddie isn’t even clear about how many children he has molested. The admitted pedophile told police that there were “so many that [he] advised he cannot remember.”
Colbert County District Attorney Bryce Graham has set his bond at $1 million, explaining to the court that “[b]ased on the evidence in this case and the seriousness of the allegations, we feel it’s better for the community that the defendant remains incarcerated.”
