A sick Facebook video posted by a teenager of his beating of an elderly woman has gone viral and sparked outage. The incident took place in Rochester, N.Y., and was later posted by a Facebook user under the name “True Goon ToCool Sneekey.” Even more shockingly, the teen chronicled his knockout attack before it even happened.
The attack took place outside of a local convenience store as the teenager picked up a snowball and said, “I’m about to smack the old lady with the snowball when she come out the store.” But when the elderly woman exited, the teenager used his left hand instead and struck the woman in the face. Afterwards, the videographer repeatedly yelled “Smack Cam!” as they fled the scene. The elderly woman stood her ground in the incident and did not appear to have any serious injuries.
But despite clear video evidence, Rochester police are not handling the situation appropriately. Rochester police spokeswoman Sgt. Elena Correia said the incident was not similar to a knockout game attack and described it as “more likely an example of a harassment than an assault.” Even though the teenager used his fist in the attack, Correia said an assault charge would require the victim to suffer “substantial pain.”
Last month, a white male from Texas was charged with a hate crime for his knockout game beating of an elderly black man, which was also filmed by the attacker himself. Conrad Alvin Barrett, 27, has been denied bail and faces 10 years in prison if convicted on all the charges against him.
