A Detroit woman dubbed “Rambo Grandma” fought off two would-be armed robbers in her driveway after proving to have better aim than her assailants.
According to reports, 51-year-old Paris Ainsworth was shot four times during the late-night robbery but pulled out her own, licensed, .45 caliber handgun and fired eight shots at her attackers.
The grandmother-of-four told reporters “if I wouldn’t have had my gun I would be dead today. This is ludicrous, the way they are just robbing and trying to take stuff from people, and killing people.”
Ainsworth says she was coming home after a double shift when two men approached her car. She put the gun in her pocket before getting out of the car.
One of the men noticed and said “Don’t pull it” and the two started shooting. Ainsworth was hit in her hand and her side.
Rambo Grandma wasn’t having it though. Ainsworth says: “I said ‘You mother***er’ and pulled out my gun and started shooting. One, he was right in the middle of the street. The other one was right here on the side of the street.”
The two men ran off and Ainsworth was taken to the Sinai-Grace Hospital. As it turned out, so was one of her assailants after being shot in both legs.
Detroit police have released a statement, saying “the victim told officers that she fired her handgun at the suspects after they attempted to rob her and did not know if the shots took effect. While at the scene, another police run was called in from the hospital stating that a male was shot. The officers went to the hospital and the male that was shot matched the description given by the victim.”
Both suspects have been arrested.
