Police are searching for two suspects who randomly assaulted a Ferndale man in what authorities believe to be a “knockout game” incident.
On Sunday night, Edward Ewing was walking home from White Castle with a friend when two men approached them.
“Was just going home,” Ewing said. “Next thing I know I am sucker punched.”
The punch knocked Ewing unconscious. He was transported to a hospital where he was diagnosed with a concussion, a broken jaw, chipped teeth, and multiple cuts and bruises.
“As we walked by them, one of them sucker punched me and completely knocked me out… There were no words spoken, looks given,” Edward said. “It was just boom… I hit the pavement – he broke my jaw. They then ran off – laughing – and jumped into a car that was waiting for them.”
Detective Brendan Moore said, “It really looks like this knockout game where people approach people walking down the street and knock them out.”
Police are searching for the two men but don’t have much to go on. One suspect was described as a “young black man.” The other described as “wearing a blue shirt.” They were seen getting into a “silver or gold car.”
Meanwhile, Ewing’s medical bills are expected to be in the tens of thousands.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Ewing asks. “My whole life is upside down. I can’t work. I’m uninsured. I’m in the hospital since Sunday, just so you can get a thrill from punching somebody in the face?”
Friends have set up a fund to help Ewing pay for his medical costs, which you can donate to here.
