Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is headed to rehab after the infamous “crack mayor” was caught on film smoking drugs once again.
The latest tape is said to have been recorded while the mayor was smoking crack at his sister’s house just this past Saturday. Ford has taken a leave of absence and has suspended his re-election campaign to attend rehab.
On Wednesday, Ford issued a statement saying he has opted to “seek immediate help” and is “100 percent committed to getting myself right.”
The mayor’s brother and campaign manager, Doug Ford, spoke at a press conference on Thursday, saying “I’ll continue to stand by my brother and his family throughout this difficult journey. This is one of the toughest days of my life.”
Doug added “in saying that, I also have a sense of relief. As an older brother, I am relieved that Rob has faced his problems and has decided to seek professional help. This is not an easy thing for anyone to do especially when you’re the mayor of this city.”
He also stated that “Rob was very emotional when he told me the hardest thing about this is he knows he let people down.”
The latest video is said to have been taken by a drug dealer at Kathy Ford’s apartment at 1 am this past Saturday. The video was first shown to reporters at the Globe and Mail who said it depicted a man who appears to be the mayor “taking a drag from a long copper-colored pipe, exhaling a cloud of smoke, his right arm convulsing.” The mayor’s sister appears to be sitting in front of him.
