While investigating a relationship between a teacher and a student, Edgewood ISD has found that another former staff member had an inappropriate relationship with the 16-year-old girl who is now four months pregnant.
Edgewood has released a statement, saying “While investigating the incident involving the ex-Memorial High School teacher and his alleged relationship with a female student, Edgewood uncovered evidence that another staff member may have been involved with the same student from Memorial. Upon further investigation it was revealed that the second suspect is an ex-officer with the Edgewood Police Department.”
The second suspect, Manuel Hernandez, reportedly met the victim in 2012 and developed a relationship with the high school teen. He reportedly asked for naked photos of the girl and is accused of pressuring the girl to have sex in return for getting her out of trouble at school.
The victim told authorities that she felt like she didn’t have any other choice.
This relationship was uncovered after police began looking into science teacher Marcus Revilla who has resigned and is charged with sexual assault of a child. According to the victim, Revilla is the father of the child she is pregnant with.
Meanwhile, the school district has released a statement, saying “Let it be known that Edgewood will not tolerate conduct that violates employee-student boundaries; individuals who break that public trust will be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible. Edgewood has continued providing support to the victim and her family. It is the avowed policy of the District to take all allegations of abuse seriously and investigate them thoroughly. It is a responsibility the District takes to heart and will never violate. The District consistently trains its staff to be vigilant with regard to student safety and always encourages students to be open in communicating their concerns, as was initially the case involving the teacher in this incident.”
