A Delaware teacher has been arrested after she was accused of having sex with a 13-year-old student at her Dover home.
According to authorities, 22-year-old English teacher Stephanie Seabury has turned herself in to the police just months after she started teaching at Fred Fifer III Middle School in Camden.
Police found surveillance videos of the teacher and the 13-year-old student leaving the school and entering her car at around 4 pm on February 26. According to police, the teacher had taken the boy to her apartment several times.
Police have also found inappropriate text messages and photos that the teacher exchanged with the student.
She was suspended from her job back in March and the school contacted the authorities.
According to the student, the two had arranged “several planned meetings” at her house.
Dover PD Spokesman Mark Hoffman says “On March 12th, our detectives became aware that the allegation was made by the student that he was having a sexual relationship with his teacher. We learned of it through him talking to various friends and acquaintances and then it got back to school officials and the police department.”
Seabury has been charged with sexual abuse by a person in a position of trust or authority. He is being held on $40,000 bond.
Seabury’s attoney John Garey says “my client’s maintained her innocence and she’s innocent until proven guilty by the state beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Caesar Rodney School District Community Relations Specialist Ron Gough told reporters that “a letter will be sent home today to all parents/guardians of Fifer Middle School children.”
