A high school student from Alabama did the unthinkable and not only disrespected the dead by taking a “selfie” photo next to a corpse, but then posted the photo to her Instagram account. The student has not been identified publicly, but is confirmed that she is a senior and attends Clements High School. Her outrageous selfie took place on a biology class field trip earlier this week, in which students visited the biology department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
A fellow classmate ratted out the girl by saving a screenshot of the now-deleted Instagram photo and reporting it to his family. Local police interviewed several students at the high school afterwards, but it appears that the offensive photo did not break any laws. Principal Keith Hairrell would not confirm what, if any disciplinary action was taken, but school district spokeswoman Karen Tucker said that “we were notified via email this morning from a parent that this incident had occurred.”
The student broke several rules with her behavior because the sheets covering the cadavers were supposed to be drawn down and students were forbidden from using their cell phones or recording devices during the field trip. The University of Alabama has since released a statement which declared that “this kind of disrespect is unacceptable and very disappointing. We will review our processes to ensure this does not happen again.”
