A St. Louis man has been arrested and charged with 19 felonies after allegedly sexually torturing five women in his apartment of the course of eight years.
Police say 29-year-old Adam Michael Capriglione is charged with 19 different felony charges, including forcible rape, forcible sodomy, felonious restraint, and domestic assault. He is being held in jail on $500,000 bond.
St. Louis County prosecutor Bob McCulloch says “The level of violence and torture and depravity that has been inflicted on these women is something that makes him a particularly dangerous man.”
Authorities say the crimes date back eight years but police were not notified until earlier this year because Capriglione “used threats and psychological control to keep them from leaving or going to the police.”
Police were notified by a hospital after one of the victims required medical treatment. Police were later able to identify four other victims but believe there may be others.
Although the women were not physically restrained, McCulloch says “They were not free to leave and they would understand there would be dire consequences.”
According to one of the victims, she was choked until she passed out, burned with heated scissors, cut, and beaten with a rubber mallet.
Another victim says that Capriglione covered her face with plastic wrap and punched her in the face.
Victims also report the assailant using various objects to sodomize his captives.
His attorney, Joseph Green, released a statement saying “In order to ensure a fair trial, this case will be dealt with in the courts and not in the media. I encourage people to not rush to judgment. As the case proceeds forward, facts will come to light that will dampen the sensationalism.”
