Yet another teacher has been arrested for having a relationship with an underage student, this time Corrie Anne Long of Cypress, Texas.
Long, a married 43-year-old special education math teacher at Hopper Middle School in the small Houston suburb, is accused of having a lengthy relationship with a 15-year-old eighth grade boy.
According to witnesses, Long was seen playfully smacking the boy on the rear end and even sitting on his lap in an afternoon tutoring session. Another witness says the boy would come into Long’s class to “mess with the teacher and would flirtatiously touch her hair.”
The boy confessed the relationship to police, telling them that Long would take him out of class and lead him to an empty classroom to have sex. According to the boy, he told the teacher that the two of them shouldn’t be doing what they were doing but she reportedly told him to not tell anyone or she could lose her job. It’s unclear how long the “relationship” lasted or how many instances of this occurred but the boy has confessed to at least one such instance occurring just before Thanksgiving Break last year.
Long, who has been a special education math teacher since 2002, was immediately placed on administrative leave and faces charges of sexual assault of a child and improper relationship with a student.
According to her criminal record, she had also been charged with public lewdness in 1992 and theft in 1989.
The school district has released a statement, saying “The safety of our students is always our highest priority. The district took immediate action to remove the teacher once the allegations were made, and we will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement in this matter.”
