A Philadelphia special education teacher has been arrested, accused of having sex with a 14-year-old student at least 10 times.
On Wednesday, 30-year-old Stephanie Amato turned herself in to Philadelphia’s Special Victims Unit and has been charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault, and corruption of a minor.
According to the District Attorney, Amato had sex with a 14-year-old student who attended Ethan Allen School where she worked, at least 10 times in her home and her car.
Police also found explicit text messages exchanged between the teacher and the boy.
Once the boy’s father found out about the relationship, he pulled his kid out of the school.
The father, who asked to remain anonymous to protect his son’s identity, told WPVI “I was very upset. She took my kid’s youth and I really want justice to take care of this woman. He’s not doing too well, he doesn’t want to go to school. He feels humiliated, since this happened he changed.”
Amato has been suspended by the Philadelphia School District after working in the school for six years. She has also been banned from contacting any of her students.
According to sources, Amato spent quite a bit of time with her students outside of the classroom.
On the Tuesday before turning herself in, she posted a photo of her surrounded by multiple students and the caption “my fav students!!”
Another photo showed her surrounded by four teens and the caption “fun with these kids!”
Principal Cassandra Houston released a statement, saying “working closely with the Philadelphia Police Department’s Special Victims Unit to ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted.”
