A counselor at Aldine MacArthur High School in Houston is facing charges of an improper relationship with a student.
According to reports, Ellen Wermeling, 32, has been suspended and is under investigation for having sex with a student.
The student told police that the two of them messaged each other over Instagram and Wemeling came to pick him up so they can “hang out” at her apartment. The student says they watched a movie and then had sex.
He says that he came back to her apartment twice after that but Wermeling says he has never been to her apartment and they have never had sex. She also told them they never spoke over Instagram, though she deleted her account on the same day as the school was alerted to the allegations.
Wermeling has been put on administrative leave until the end of the investigation and has been released from jail on $10,000 bond. She has worked at the school since 2005.
The school has released a statement saying “Aldine Independent School District has been made aware of a MacArthur High School staff member being charged with having an inappropriate relationship with a MacArthur student. The district takes this allegation seriously and is fully cooperating with authorities. The Aldine ISD Police Department launched an investigation and once it was completed turned over its findings to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. The staff member was removed from the campus once the district learned of the allegation and will not be returning. The safety and security of our students will continue to be a top priority in Aldine ISD.”
