The brother of Sarah Palin, Chuck Heath Jr., wrote a lengthy Facebook post claiming that IRS has “horribly harassed” their elderly father because of his sister’s political goals. In the post, Heath claims their father “faithfully and honestly paid his taxes for 50 years” and “never heard a word” from the IRS, but has been extensively investigated six times since Palin announced her plans to run for Vice President in 2008.
“They’ve tried to dig up something on him, but he’s always operated above board,” wrote Heath. “Government and politics are ugly. Kudos to the few that are trying to clean it up.”
Of course, Palin herself has been subject to plenty of attacks. Last November, former MSNBC anchor Martin Bashir sparked outrage for suggesting that someone should defecate in her mouth. After Palin made an analogy comparing the implications of American debt to slavery. Bashir responded by quoting directly from the diary of a man named Thistlewood, which included his experience of seeing a slave defecate in another slave’s mouth. He then shocked listeners by stating that “when Mrs. Palin invokes slavery, she doesn’t just prove her ignorance. She confirms if anyone is truly qualified for a dose of discipline from Thomas Thistlewood, she would be the outstanding candidate.”
After conservatives took to Twitter and called for his firing, Bashir went on “vacation” for 10 days afterwards before he turned in his resignation to the network. He wrote in a memo that “I deeply regret what was said, will endeavor to work hard at making constructive contributions in the future and will always have a deep appreciation for our viewers.”
