A New York man has been arrested after he broke into a Queens apartment late Sunday night and attacked three women who were sleeping with a hammer before robbing them.
According to authorities, police have arrested 29-year-old Lawrence Parsons who sneaked into the apartment through an open window, ransacked the rooms, and seriously injured the occupants with a hammer.
According to reports, 31-year-old Dawn Picota was attacked after she walked in to find Parsons hitting her mother with the hammer. That’s when Parsons turned to her and attacked her until she was unconscious. He then entered the aunt’s bedroom and attacked her.
David Martinez, a neighbor of the three victims, says “He went with a hammer, caught the first victim while she was sleeping. She didn’t even scream. The second he got in the living room. Got her, went into the bedroom and got the third victim. One of them might be blind in one eye. One of them lost an ear. The third needs cosmetic surgery.”
Picota sustained three skull fractures, multiple broken bones, and lost sight in her left eye. Her mother and aunt also sustained multiple skull and face fractures and are in serious condition.
Parsons made off with a laptop, an iPad, and a cell phone. Police identified him on surveillance footage walking around the building and ringing the buzzer prior to the break-in. He was arrested at his home where police found the stolen phone.
Parsons had been in prison several times for attempted assault and robbery until he was released on March 27, just weeks before the attack. Police say he has confessed to the crime and said he “will do whatever time he has to do.”
