A 37-year-old Disney Cruise Line worker has been charged with molesting a 13-year-old girl on board a ship docked at Port Canaveral.
Indonesian native Ahmed Sofyan is charged with two counts of molestation and one count of false imprisonment. He was arrested on Thursday after the cruise line alerted both the local police and the FBI following the girl’s complaint.
Sofyan reportedly lured the girl into an empty cabin where he began touching her. When she tried to leave, he grabbed her in a tight hold. She warned him that her parents are looking for her and he finally let her go.
The assailant told police that he knew what he did was wrong and that he knew how old the girl was.
Karl Holz, the president of Disney Cruise Line, released a statement saying “We have no tolerance whatsoever for the behavior alleged in this incident. We are sorry that anything of this nature could have occurred on one of our ships. We have enormous value on the trust out guests have in us, and nothing is more important to us than the safety and security of each and every one of our guests.”
Sofyan has been fired by Disney and is currently in Brevard County Jail.
This isn’t the first time the cruise line has seen one of its workers caught in disturbing behavior. In 2012, a cruise line employee was caught on security cameras molesting an 11-year-old girl. In that incident, however, the cruise line did not contact authorities and instead bought the employee a plane ticket back to India.
