Being the First Lady is hard work, apparently. Michelle Obama is currently on an “extended vacation” at Oprah Winfrey’s Hawaii beach house before taking another vacation to celebrate her 50th birthday. Although the talk show maven isn’t at her Hawaii home for Obama’s “girls getaway,” several friends including CBS’ Gayle King and Valerie Jarrett are currently shacking up at the Maui beach house. The trip is part of a gift from the President for her birthday.
But while even Winfrey manages to peacefully live in the secluded community, Obama is making her presence felt. Because of the understandable security issues, a local coffee shop owner reported seeing “bomb sniffing dogs and Maui police in the bushes. We’re very close to Oprah’s property. They’ll probably walk up and down the road.”
Michelle made the trip to Hawaii without Barack or her two daughters, adding fuel to the ongoing rumors that they are planning to divorce. She has reportedly met with divorce lawyers and will remain in the White House for the rest of his term in order to keep up appearance, but intends to live a separate life for him. Sources claim that Michelle will move into one of the bedrooms in the family’s private living quarters and has already made arrangements to move his belongings out of their home in Chicago. She will also reportedly go after half of his assets in the divorce settlement.
It seems that the Obama’s recent trip to South Africa for Nelson Mandela’s memorial service may have put their teetering relationship over the edge. The First Lady appeared to be fuming as the President took “selfie” photos with other politicians during the memorial service, in addition to laughing and flirting with Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt. Eventually, she got up and switched seats to place herself in the middle of Barack and Thorning-Schmidt.
Although the source for this rumor is the National Enquirer, the tabloid publication has been correct on some of their more recent political stories. They were the first to break the story that former Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards had impregnated another woman while his wife was slowly dying from cancer.
