A chilling new video that was just released shows five police officers killing an innocent man through gross excessive force in trying to restrain and arrest him. Luis Rodriguez, 44, died in an Oklahoma movie theater parking lot after the officers tackled, pepper-sprayed and mercilessly beat him in front of his wife and daughter. The incident came after police in the town of Moore were called to handle a domestic disturbance complaint.
Rodriguez’s wife admitted to slapping their 19-year-old daughter, but made it clear her husband was not involved. But after he refused to cooperate when they wanted to talk to him, the officers tackled him and held him face down on the ground. His wife began to record the incident on her cell phone as the officers continued to hold him down, even after he had stopped speaking or moving. “You killed my husband!” she yelled at the cops as an ambulance arrived at the scene.
The death is currently being investigated and three of the officers have been placed on administrative leave. However, Police Chief Jerry Stillings said he had not seen any evidence yet that the officers behaved inappropriately. The family has since filed a lawsuit against the town and police department.
Michael Brooks-Jimenez, an attorney for the family, said the security footage made it all too clear that the police were responsible for Rodriguez’s death. He said in a statement that the video shows the cops “taking him face down onto the pavement, pepper-spraying his mouth, nose and eyes and putting the weight of five grown men on top of him, and then handcuffing him as he was unconscious or already dead.”
