In what is easily the most hypocritical move by a politician in 2014 thus far, anti-gun advocate and former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg will be protected by several gun-toting bodyguards as he moves into civilian life. Bloomberg purchased numerous police officers away from the NYPD with his own money and is promising them six-figure salaries and early retirement to protect him by any means necessary. He will also obtain permission for his personal security team to carry weapons in “gun-free” countries such as Bermuda, where he owns a home.
But even though Bloomberg will no longer serve in political office, he will continue to work for laws that could ultimately strip away the Second Amendment rights of Americans. He has pledged a blank check to essentially buy Congress in this year’s mid-term elections, allowing President Barack Obama can get a gun ban majority in the U.S. House and Senate.
He will also continue to finance the organization Mayors Against Illegal Guns. “Rest assured I’m going to devote extensive resources of my own and work very hard,” he said. “We will keep fighting. Maybe we’ll keep fighting even harder because we have more time to work on this. This organization is not going away.
In addition, Bloomberg has donated $2 million to gun-control candidates running for office in the upcoming midterm elections. However, the National Rifle Association’s PAC has attempted to counteract this by raising $11.2 million so far the upcoming election cycle.
