Gun control advocates should probably think about the moments when a firearm used by a licensed weapons holder can actually save lives. A customer at a Dollar General store in Orrville, Ala. saved the lives of multiple people after a gunman entered the store and threatened to kill everyone. As the gunman forced the cashier and a customer into a separate room at gunpoint, the customer drew his firearm and shot the suspect once in the chest.
The gunman was pronounced dead at the scene and nobody else was injured in the incident. Although the customer will likely not face any charges in the death, police are confirming that he had a legitimate concealed carry permit, which would have been required for him to have the gun in the store.
“You have one individual waving a gun and you have another one who shoots the one waving the gun,” said Dallas Count Sheriff Harris Huffman Jr. “Some people say that’s justifiable. Then you’re going to have some who says it’s not. I think we need to get all of the information we can get from everybody and then go forward from there.”
Last November, a similar attempted robbery and shooting of the attacker by a Good Samaritan took place at a separate dollar store in Alabama. However, the family of the suspected armed robber actually expressed anger at the man who shot him.
“If his (the customer) life was not in danger, if no one had a gun up to him, if no one pointed a gun at him – what gives him the right to think that it’s okay to just shoot someone?” said the family member to Fox10 News. “You should have just left the store and went wherever you had to go in your car or whatever.”
